Meet Helen who completed the Train4Tomorrow Website Development Skills Bootcamp
Age 59
Area Cornwall
Helen works for The Duchy Health Charity in Cornwall and is the only member of staff providing administration and governance support to the volunteer Trustee board. The charity provides health and well-being grants to organisations within Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
With plans to implement a new website, Helen thought it was perfect timing to do some in-depth WordPress training to gain skills to support the management of the new site.
Helen applied for the Train4Tomorrow Website Designer Skills Bootcamp delivered by Digital Peninsula Network.
“I specifically wanted to do training in WordPress and I couldn’t find anybody that did structured WordPress training so as soon as DPN released this course I jumped on it.”
The Duchy Health Charity, Helen’s employer, supported her by paying the small contribution towards the cost of the course. It was seen as an important skill that was necessary with the implementation of a new website.
“Website design was a key skill that was important for me to have. The bootcamp was actually very good value for money when you think about the length of the course and everything that they covered.”
Digital Peninsula Network’s Website Designer Skills bootcamp is open to all abilities from those looking to enter the world of WordPress to those with a good working knowledge of the system.
Qualifications gained
Level 3 Planning, Building and Maintaining a Website Skills Bootcamp
“It took me from having next to no knowledge of WordPress to feeling confident to build pages myself.”
With the course running online one day a week for nine weeks Helen was able to fit the course around her busy work life. During this time, she learned all about creating a WordPress website including best practices around Search Engine Optimisation, and accessibility.
Helen said:
“I’ve had some experience of updating websites in different platforms before, but it’s always been the very end of the process, working with pre-set templates. The bootcamp has taught me new skills around design elements and building pages, which I am now confident to implement in our website when it’s ready.
“As a result of the bootcamp, I’m now able to add more engaging elements to the page. I truly feel that I’m now fully up to speed with WordPress so I can confidently support our website.”
Helen is confident that the new skills she has learned through the bootcamp will make the new website more engaging and will encourage more traffic to their site so that the charity can help support more individuals around Cornwall.
“There’s absolutely nothing to lose, other than a bit of time. There’s no argument that it really helped me, and it was good fun as well!”
