Skills Bootcamp courses

This Bootcamp programme has been designed to support adults into employment. There will be a focus on the development of practical skills in brickwork and blockwork. Alongside this, there will be the development of knowledge required to pass the CSCS test for construction operatives. To access the CSCS test, learners must achieve the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.

In addition, learners will study information and communication content from the level 2 unit – Principles of Construction.

This Skills Bootcamp will provide you with an introduction to the practical skills in a range of trade occupations within the construction industry. These will include:

• Basic Bricklaying
• Basic Carpentry
• Introduction to Plastering
• Small Scale Building Repairs
• Introduction to Painting and Decorating

Completion of this Skills Bootcamp is designed to lead into further training and employment as a bricklayer, carpenter, plaster, painter/decorator or in property maintenance.

This course will be delivered in person at Petroc’s main campus in North Devon.

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for people looking to get into the construction industry by offering a blend of professional training on specific construction trades, as well as expert teaching on the required knowledge and behaviours needed to start working in the sector, including the underpinning health and safety and training towards completing a CSCS card, which is essential for working on a building site. This course will then provide a clear pathway to progress onto a range of construction courses or the opportunity to start work in the construction industry.

The delivery of the course will be through a 1 day a week for 12 weeks. This will enable the delivery of all theoretical and practical elements in our industry standard construction faculty.

The Skills Bootcamp in Entry to Electrical will provide entrants with an introduction to skills and knowledge across a range of Electrical Installation career options, this will include theory and practical elements.

You will develop an introduction to the knowledge of:

• Health and Safety within Electrical work, safe electrical working practices
• Recognition of Electrical principles from generation, distribution and transmission through to end circuit installation practices.
• Electrical design and practical installations across domestic, commercial, industrial, renewable and communications systems.
• Verification by testing and inspection of installations of the safety to energise circuits, together with an understanding of fault finding.

Through this training course, you will learn how to reduce the environmental impact of construction, whilst building your confidence in the requirement for traditional trades and skills, which continue to be fundamental to the industry.

Training will be delivered through a blend of virtual and in person weekly masterclasses. These masterclasses will include site visits and online workshops across a 10-week programme or a fast track 6/8 week programme, depending on the commitment the individual is available to offer.

Learners will be trained to identify and understand the benefits of different modern methods of construction (MMC) and offsite solutions. The training covers various areas within digital design, sustainable construction approaches, pre-manufactured value, and process engineering, as well as providing access to mentors within the industry.

The course will cover:

• How to improve air quality

• Reducing the reliance on fossil fuels
• Understand the benefits of different MMC categories

The Content Creation and Digital Communication pathway acts as a higher-level bootcamp built on the fundamental skills developed from the Digital Marketing bootcamp.

Learners will explore a range of marketing scenarios and content strategies to establish best practices when communicating with online audiences. Learners will explore the use of different tools and techniques, via a range of platforms to cultivate online conversational styles to model organisational standards, narratives, and brands. Learners will develop their own content, communication strategies, and presentation practices to tackle both linear and dynamic challenges, towards online opportunities. This structure will aim to teach learners new strategies to deliver digital campaigns successfully.

The Cyber Readiness course with BIT Training is perfect if you are looking to start your career in Cyber Security.

Covering: BCS Certificate in Information Security Management Principles (CISMP), CyberSafe Awareness and an introduction to the Internet of Things.

In partnership with Devon County Council, this 8-week Skills Bootcamp in Data Analytics is taught on a daytime schedule and offers jobseekers and working professionals in Devon the opportunity to upskill and begin a career in data analytics.

What you’ll learn in this Skills Bootcamp:

The course is one day per week over 12-16 weeks with a coaching and mentoring session available on the same day to support your professional development.

Induction, the first week of each module, and graduation week will be held on site at Exeter College.

The second week of each module will be taught live online using the Microsoft Teams platform, with the option to attend in person if you prefer.

During the coaching and mentoring sessions there will be progress reviews, an opportunity to further discuss the content of the programme, as well as focusing on Individual Professional Development, reflecting on skills development and individual target setting, and supporting those applying for a change of job role.

During the course you will create an online portfolio of work to showcase your development.

In the final week of the programme there will be interview preparation, final portfolio feedback, visiting speaker talks and graduation!

Skills Bootcamp in Understanding Domestic Retrofit

You will finish the course with a greater understanding of the retrofit agenda and a Level 2 Award in Domestic Retrofit.

Training on: understanding and use of thermography equipment to survey and understand building construction, external wall insulation, loft insulation, heat pumps. There will also be experience in drone surveying and thermal imaging; if successful, learners will gain a CAA drone flyers ID.

Crossfields Institute Level 2 Skills Bootcamp in Regenerative Land Systems: food and farming and permaculture association certificate.

An introduction to permaculture for those working in land based businesses and food production. Regenerative Food systems training is certified by Ofqual and awarded by Crossfields Institute.

The short course will help you:

Truro and Penwith College has collaborated with Kernow Health’s Primary Care Training Hub, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, Health and Care Academy and the Independent Care Board to co-develop an innovative Skills Bootcamp covering core clinical skills and competencies for existing Health and Social Care sector employees who are looking to develop into clinical roles or educational pathways.

Truro and Penwith College will be hosting a Taster Day for the Skills Bootcamp in Clinical Pathways to provide potential learners and their managers with an opportunity to meet with the tutors and gain a better understanding of the content.

The Taster Day will also cover the study requirements, the benefits of becoming an adult learner at Truro and Penwith College and allow attendees to meet with trained Guidance Officers to discuss their career aspirations and any additional support or accessibility requirements.

The thirteen-week Skills Bootcamp will enable learners to access career progression, with previous Skills Bootcamp students moving into Senior Health Care or Clinical roles, or prepare them for an Apprenticeship or further study.

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for people looking to start working in the healthcare sector. The course content will develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours to fully prepare them to gain employment and to build a career within the sector.

The course will help individuals to develop their occupational knowledge, skills and behaviours and support them to work toward their Care Certificate that includes the 15 standards essential to providing high quality care. This course will also build the resilience required when working in healthcare and support individuals to gain employment by creating a CV, developing interview skills, building confidence and developing key functional literacy and numeracy skills for the sector.

This 10 week Skills Bootcamp will include the following topics:

Week 3: Meat dishes,

Completion of this Skills Bootcamp will allow you to enter a professional kitchen as a trainee/commis chef.

This course will be delivered in person at our main campus in North Devon and runs one day a week, every Monday, from 9.00am – 4.00pm.

Course will include: differences in coaching and mentoring, essential skills for coaching and mentoring, different coaching techniques and how to use them in your role, The coaching and mentoring process, coaching and mentoring to support performance and performance management, reflective practice and confidentiality and ethics.

Learnings will receive the CMI Level 3 Award, which includes a written assignment – certificated by CMI.

On the achievement of the course, learners will be able to confidently perform in a coaching and mentoring role, apply for relevant jobs, progress to higher qualifications and professional membership should they wish.

This nine-week Skills Bootcamp for Future Chef Managers is ideal for chefs and professional kitchen employees who are looking to develop skills in leadership, people management, finance, HR and sustainability in order to progress into supervisory or Chef Manager roles within the Hospitality sector.

Across the nine College-based teaching days, our specialist tutors will develop your knowledge and skills in a comprehensive range of topics including Introduction to the Role of a Chef Manager, Managerial Responsibilities, Sustainable Leadership, HR Fundamentals, Finance, Communications and Coaching and Mentoring.

Thanks to its accreditation as an approved provider for the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), learners will also be supported to achieve the industry-recognised Level Three Award in Leadership and Management through the completion of the Skills Bootcamp.

Across the ten College-based teaching days, our specialist tutors will develop your knowledge and skills in a comprehensive range of topics including Health and Safety, MIG and TIG welding, Consumables, Components, Gases and Methods for Post-Weld Processes.

Thanks to its accreditation as an approved provider for The Welding Institute Coded Welding tests, learners will also be supported to obtain this highly-valued and industry-recognised certification at the conclusion of the Skills Bootcamp.
