    Students will gain a range of practical skills for working on heritage properties, which will introduce them to a range of trade occupations within the Heritage Construction Industry. Curriculum emphasis will be tailored to the particular needs of each cohort, but will include:

    Overview of conservation basics – damp, why traditional materials, breathability – focus on practicality and function of good traditional building skills and materials rather than delve into philosophy; why good for the building etc.

    Lime skills practical and theory – What is lime, how it is made and the different types available and what they are used for. lime repointing, (how to apply and finish work) mixing lime (pan mixer/whisk/drum mixer) Pozzolans & lime washing.

    Cob – practical and theory – what is cob, how to carry out a repair to a cob wall using cob blocks and lime mortar. Toothing in and using helifix bars.

    Stonework – practical and theory. Introduction in stonemasonry principles, different types of stonework (rubble stone, ashlar etc) mortar choice, working stone by hand, matching existing finishes. Using lime mortar to bed stonework. Indent or repair of damaged stone.

    This Occupational Works Supervision Skills Bootcamp has been created for individuals who are construction trades team leaders, assistant supervisors, supervisors on SSSTS certification seeking to upskill onto a Level 3 NVQ supervision qualification and gain a Gold CSCS Supervisory card within the Devon area.

    This pathway allows you more flexibility to train during evenings and weekends (The timetable for this bootcamp is Mon – Thurs evenings 17.30 – 20.30 and Saturdays (9:00 – 17:00) across 8 weeks) with the knowledge / theory part of the training being delivered remotely. This allows you to login via video conferencing software like Zoom or Microsoft Teams to a live tutor from the comfort of your own home!

    What is included in this training?
    • Level 1 H&S in a construction environment course prep and assessment (including re-sit)

    • CSCS Card x 2 prior to completion of NVQ and on completion of NVQ Level 3

    Fast track to a Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship!

    Over the course of 8 weeks you will take part in fun learning sessions designed to provide you with an introduction to childcare and help you to understand more about how children learn and develop. You will spend one day a week on a placement with a local Nursery where you get the opportunity to test your practical skills and begin to form relationships with what will hopefully become the setting for your Level 3 Early Years Educator Accelerated Apprenticeship. You will also complete Pediatric First Aid certification, crucial for working within childcare.

    Join our Health Care Skills Bootcamp and explore the opportunities in this exciting industry. This program is designed to equip learners with the essential skills and knowledge needed to kickstart a successful career in the health care sector.

    During the course, you will gain a general introduction to health care and then move on to more sector-specific issues and topics.

    You will also look at all care standards from a theoretical viewpoint and look at the underpinning values in the sector, and develop your communication skills.

    Much of your learning will be through focused discussions with a self-assessment of your understanding of the knowledge you have gained, with suggestions for further reading and extension activities.

    The course will cover the following topics:

    • Emergency First Aid at Work: Learn to assess emergency situations and respond effectively. This element will be certificated by Highfield.
    • Care certificate knowledge: Gain knowledge of the 15 standards on the care certificate. You will complete a workbook to demonstrate your understanding and present it to potential employers.
    • Skills/Baseline observations: Engage in practical activities where you will learn vital skills such as accurately recording blood pressure, temperature, and assessing patients. This session takes place in our hospital simulation suite.
    • Safe manual handling: Obtain a certificate in safe manual handling to prevent injuries when moving heavy loads. This element is certificated by Highfield.
    • Introduction to understanding safeguarding: Acquire essential knowledge on safeguarding patients and identifying signs and symptoms. Understand how to safeguard yourself in the process.
    • Understanding specific needs in health and social care: Explore various conditions that impact service users. Utilise simulation equipment to experience these conditions and learn how to provide effective support.
    • Preparation for interview/interview skills: Prepare for job interviews by gaining insights into common interview questions and understanding what employers seek in responses.
    • Tutorial/academic study skills: Receive valuable support on various topics, including letter writing, job applications, and computer skills. The session will be tailored to your individual needs.

    Careers research will be targeted towards your current experience and career goals.

    Students who complete the course are guaranteed a job interview in the sector.

    You will be required to attend each Friday for 11 weeks from Friday 10 January 2025.

    Resources will be primarily online via the Google Classroom to support sustainability and reduce use of paper resources.

    The sequence of the sessions is designed to give an introduction to essential information in Health care that has a general knowledge aspect but then moving on to more sector specific issues and topics.     Who is this qualification for?

    This award is designed for Learners who maintain, and repair vehicles fitted with ADAS technology. It contains the skills and knowledge required to carry out calibration of ADAS sensors. This includes systems for driver safety, pedestrian safety, motion/stability control and collision avoidance systems. On completing this qualification, technicians will have gained knowledge working safely, understanding a variety of technologies, and understanding the tools and equipment and environmental conditions when calibrating ADAS systems.

    It is therefore designed to provide a standardised approach for the delivery and assessment of the knowledge and skills requirements relating to vehicles fitted with ADAS technology.

    This Skills Bootcamp in Aviation is a 60-hour guided learning course and is funded in full by Devon County Council, working in partnership with Exeter Aerospace.

    This course focuses on transferring existing automotive skills in vehicle paint and maintenance, covering the regulations, skills and behaviours required to work in a certified Part 145 organisation. You will be taught by licenced engineers who will share their experience of working in the aviation sector and visit the hangars at Exeter Aerospace, reinforcing and developing the topics covered.

    This two-week course will cover:

    • The difference in environment between the automotive and aviation workshop
    • Process difference such as the regulations for signing off on jobs and procedures
    • Who are the CAA and EASA, what is a Part 145 and 147 organisation
